The APW practices bring mind-body renewal by quieting the mind to moments of stillness without cognitive effort. Practice builds present moment awareness automatically without having to think about it.

By comparison, Mindfulness meditation uses mental effort to maintain vigilant observation to control awareness which is difficult to sustain. The quality of being more present is a spontaneous result of practicing the APW tools, not the process. With SKY, you don't "try" to be present, you simply become more present and live it naturally.

What is Advanced Physician Wellness?

APW utilizes several highly effective, evidence-based mind-body techniques. The core practices are SKY (Breathing Meditation) & EDM (Effortless Deep Meditation technique). Mind-body renewal is needed by physicians to counter the exhausting challenges in the practice of medicine. Renewal restores enthusiasm and brings joy back into practicing medicine.

An advantage of SKY practice for physicians is the effortlessness. You don't control the mind, focus or observe anything to achieve a deep, restful state of meditation. Proficiency is gained in one weekend.

SKY practice has over 70 published research studies showing a wide range of wellness outcomes and constitutes an easy, yet potent avenue to immediately shift the whole psycho-physiological state in a spontaneous way without mental effort. This includes a physiologic shift in the autonomic nervous system promoting parasympathetic arousal and a return of homeostasis in biologic markers of chronic stress within the first two sessions.
